The division employs state-of-the-art technology for therapeutic interventions, including transcatheter, robotic, and minimally invasive approaches. Recognized as one of the highest-volume cardiac surgical programs in the United States, the division has a distinguished history of innovation in valvular disease, thoracic aortic disease, and cardiothoracic transplantation. Alongside numerous clinical milestones and accomplishments, the UPMC Cardiac Surgery program stands as a global contributor to advancements in heart disease treatment. The division takes pride in its robust research collaborations, fostering strong relationships among surgeons, cardiologists, scientists, and beyond. This collaborative spirit extends to the partnership with the Division of Cardiology at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute and other institutions in the region. This partnership has led to the flourishing of the coronary and structural heart program at UPMC, marked by thousands of transcatheter and endovascular interventions with outstanding outcomes. The flagship location of the Division is situated at UPMC Presbyterian, where complex aortic surgery, advanced heart failure therapies, and high-risk cardiac surgeries are performed. Additionally, UPMC network hospital cardiac surgery sites are strategically located, including UPMC Passavant in the northern Pittsburgh suburbs, UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pennsylvania, UPMC Altoona in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland, Maryland, UPMC North Central PA in Williamsport, and UPMC Central PA in Harrisburg.
